Laura Linney's portrayal of vulnerable, yet strong characters has made her one of today's greatest American actors. Her father was an acclaimed playwright, but Linney was raised as an all-only child by her single-mother who was a nurse. During the summers, while with her dad Linney discovered a love for the theatre. She eventually studied acting first in Brown University then at Juilliard School. Starting her acting career on the Broadway following her graduation, she debuted in films within two years and on television within a year. Innumerable appearances in films, and television and stage shows since. There have been numerous awards throughout her career. This includes 4 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. However, in spite of all the awards she has received acting has been her passion first and foremost. She has continued to appear both on stage and screen.
